Belizean Gail Hudson Named 2020 Nevada Teacher of the Year

On August 26, 2019, Belizean Gail Hudson, a fifth-grade teacher at Hummel Elementary was selected as the 2020 Nevada Teacher of the Year. Hudson is an educator who migrated to the USA from Belize when it was still known as British Honduras.

Ms. Hudson is a national board-certified teacher who has been in the classroom for over three decades. According to reports the elementary school teacher says she takes pride in helping students who come from out of the country, adjust to cultural differences in the classroom.

Ms. Hudson serves as Hummel Elementary’s diversity site liaison and Title One site coordinator and says her priority are the kids.

“I just feel humbled and appreciative that they see me, for everything that I have done for my kids,” said Hudson. “All I think about is what is it that I can do for those kids that is the most important case. You know, money comes and money goes, but it’s all about the kids.”

Ms. Hudson celebrated her accomplishment with family, colleagues, city and state leaders.
