Belize held its first national Elementary School Robotics Event on Saturday, January 25, 2020. The FIRST LEGO League is the most accessible, guided, global robotics competition, helping students and teachers to build a better future together. The program is built around theme-based Challenges to engage children ages 9 to 16 in research, problem solving, coding, and engineering.
San Pedro had representation in this first ever robotics competition where The Island Academy had their team – Team Island Innovators. The 2020 Challenge included three parts: the Robot Game, the Innovation Project, and the Core Values. Island academy took first place in first LEGO league competition and they will now represent the country in Houston, Texas in April.
Winners for the FIRST LEGO League Competition were:
1st Team Island Innovators
2nd Team Tech Knights
3rd Team Aqua
About FIRST LEGO League – The positive impact FIRST LEGO League has on participants is gratifying and well documented. Over 88% are more interested in doing well in school, and 87% have more interest in attending college. When students are engaged in hands-on STEM experiences, they build confidence, grow their knowledge and develop habits of learning. When adults coach these students, they encourage them to try, fail, and try again, while connecting STEM concepts to real-world examples.
Congratulations to Team Island Innovators – The Island Academy on their win and best of luck in Houston, Texas.
