San Pedro Town Council Updates Regulations During COVID-19 Lockdown

Press Release, San Pedro Town Council, Ambergris Caye, Belize – Tuesday, April 28, 2020 – Based on the Statutory Instrument No. 62 of 2020 which came into effect on April 26, 2020, the San Pedro Town Council, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. and the EOC have made modifications to further ensure the safety of all residents in Ambergris Caye. The modifications will be fully enforced and are effective immediately.

SOCIAL DISTANCING – All establishments must have their customers and employees practice social distancing. Spaces of 6 feet a part must be marked outside of your establishment and only a limited amount of customers should be inside the establishment.

HYGIENE – Businesses and customers must practice good hygiene. All establishments must provide a station for customers to wash their hands prior to entering the establishment. Hand sanitizer must also be accessible to customers and employees. Employees must wash their hands regularly. Owner, employees and customers MUST wear a face mask at all times.

A task force has been established by the EOC that will be ensuring that all regulations and requirements are being enforced and practiced by conducting daily check-ups. Failure to comply with the regulations and requirements will be forced to the closure of the business. The Task Force consists of Deputy Mayor Gabriel Nuñez, employee from the SPTC, traffic warden, personnel from the Ministry of Health.

NEW OPENING HOURS FOR BUSINESSES:

Grocery stores: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Pharmacies: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Tortilla Factories and Bakeries: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Banks: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Utility Companies: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Fuel and Butane Gas Companies: 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Hardware stores: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Laundromats: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Ice Cream Shops: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Delis, taco stands and fruit stands: 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
*Take out/Pick up or Delivery only *Must have a trade license *Must register number of people working *Must register business at San Pedro Town Council *Employees must have food handlers’ certificate.

Construction companies can operate from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
*Construction sites must register at the San Pedro Town Council: property, number of employees, must have supervisor and engineer registered and present.

Restaurants and Fast Food businesses: 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
*Pick up or Delivery service only. *Cannot sell liquor *No dining-in

OTHER REGULATIONS:

FISHING – Fishing for livelihood and sustenance fishing activities must register at the office of Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
*Must have a commercial fishing license
*NO FISHING ON PIERS/DOCKS OR SHORES

CURFEW – Curfew is still in effect; Childrend 16 years and under: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Adults: 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. *Social gatherings of any kind is prohibited. *People must move with a purpose. *You are still NOT allowed to visit family and friends who do not reside in your home. Not on Sundays nor any day of the week.

EVACUATION/ENTERING – People that wish to leave the island can continue to register at the offices of the San Pedro Town Council and must adhere to proper screening procedures by the Ministry of Health.

Only essential workers are allowed to enter the island under restrictions and requirements proposed by the Ministry of Health.

People stranded that wish to return to the island must have valid proof of living in Ambergris Caye and must adhere to quarantine laws at their own expense.

*Water Taxis are not operating and will not be operating until further notice.
This includes San Pedro Belize Express, Ocean Ferry, Thunderbolt, etc.

*Discos, bars and nightclubs are still prohibited from opening.
