First Positive COVID Case Detected From Belize Airport Arrivals

Yesterday, Sunday October 4, the Office of Director of Health Services in Belize confirmed that the COVID-19 screening process at Belize’s Philip Godson International Airport picked up one positive case from an international traveler arriving to the country.

Eighty eight (88) of those passengers arrived with a negative PCR and the airport screening process managed to pick ONE positive case in the remaining 104 screened. In a press release, the Ministry of Health reminded all those returning to their families, home or workplace, that it is anticipated that all will be doing self quarantine for a minimum of 10 days notwithstanding a negative result; this is the broad recommendation to minimize further exposure.

Belize COVID-19 Update

Sixty five new cases of COVID-19 were identified also identified in the country of Belize yesterday, Sunday, October 4, 2020, from a total of 253 samples were processed.

  • Cayo – 4
  • Stann Creek – 6
  • Corozal – 7
  • Belize – 8
  • Orange Walk – 40

There were 32 recoveries to report, making it 35.9% of identified cases still remain active. Unfortunately there was another death to report, a male in his 50’s from Unitedville. He had been at KHMH’s ICU and had been having cardiac complications from when he arrived and the diagnosis of COVID had been made upon his admission to the ICU. Two patients currently remain intubated at KHMH.

Belize’s case fatality rate is now 1.37%
