Marceli Santos Hits Belize’s Music Scene as SheBeSky

– by Dorian Nunez – I had always wished for a cool stage name, but I guess I always had stage fright. But do you want to hear a cool stage name – SheBeSky! You might have heard it recently as Marceli Sky McCorkle Santos hit Belize’s music scene last week with her song, and accompanying music video, titled “GUN’D” that has captured the hearts of many. However, as we delve into her musical journey, we learn that there’s much more to this talented artist than just her music.

A Passion for Music that Runs Deep
Marceli Santos has always had a deep love for music, with singing and writing being an integral part of her life from an early age. While she officially started singing in the studio about a year and a half ago, her passion for music had been evident through the impromptu concerts she would hold for her friends, family, and even her stuffed animals. Music has been her constant companion, allowing her to express a wide range of emotions and experiences.

The Creative Process: Patience and Dedication
The creation of “GUN’D” was not an overnight success. The song was meticulously crafted over the course of a year, with multiple studio sessions and constant refinement. Marceli, along with producer Kirian Vasquez (Redline Productions), dedicated hours into shaping the song, making sure it turned out to be something extraordinary. The result is a testament to the patience and passion poured into its creation.

Staying True to Her Roots
Both the song and its music video were proudly recorded in Belize. Marceli’s collaboration with Redline Productions and Shamir Photography & Graphic Design allowed her to capture the essence her song while delivering a product of exceptional quality.

“I’ve had a lot of people tell me they thought the video was shot in the USA because of the quality and location and it wasn’t until they saw the Tropic Air logo and planes that they realized it was filmed here in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. I’m thankful for Shamir Photography & Graphic Design (Shamir Guerrero) for having such an amazing vision for the video direction and Redroll Films(Theodore Spain) for filming and producing a video of such high quality in collaboration with DJ Karlo. I think it’s made a huge impact on how much people enjoyed the video.”

Balancing Dreams with Reality
Though her song “GUN’D” has received tremendous feedback and appreciation from her fans, Marceli acknowledges that the music industry in Belize is still evolving. While the country boasts abundant talent, it’s challenging for artists to rely solely on music to sustain their livelihoods due to the time, dedication, and financial investment required. As a result, Marceli does not see herself quitting her day job just yet, but she is optimistic about the future of Belizean music and hopes for a breakthrough soon.

“I think a breakthrough is right on the horizon, at least I’m hopeful and positive that it will change soon, especially with the growing number of artists in all genres that are creating music in the jewel right now. It’s just a matter of time and support from the local and international community. I don’t think I’ll get up and quit my day job just yet, but this definitely is only the beginning of music for me.”

The Inspiration Behind “GUN’D”
“GUN’D” is more than just a catchy tune; it represents a healing era for listeners, particularly those navigating post-breakup emotions. Marceli describes it as a song that exudes a sense of empowerment, inspiring people to leave their sorrows behind and embrace life with newfound confidence. Drawing from her own experiences and those of friends going through similar situations, she crafted lyrics that resonate deeply with her audience.

What Inspires Her to Sing? – “I was raised by women, like my mom and grandmother, that always loved listening to music and singing (respectively). I could sing along to Gloria Gaynor and Bon Jovi by age five and rap to Eminem and Sean Paul by age seven. I also think I was born with a vein directly connecting my heart and vocal cords. Any feeling— happy, sad, angry, chill, chaotic and everything in between—can get me to sing or write music. Then there are times I don’t even have to be living in that emotion to tell the story of it. I feel like listening to my favorite music has always given me an outlet to feel any and every emotion at any given moment and I’m really lucky that now I can do the same for other people too.”

The Future: A Journey of Creativity
While Marceli Santos appreciates the positive reception of “GUN’D,” she has no intentions of stopping there. She has an arsenal of lyrics and ideas waiting to be brought to life, and she is determined to keep creating music that touches hearts and sparks emotions. Marceli’s desire is to connect with her audience, providing them with the same emotional outlet that her favorite music has given her throughout her life.
