At the beginning of April, the Caye Caulker Lobster Fest committee officially announced the cancelation of their lobster festival for 2020; this is in light of the current situation our country is facing with COVID-19.
“No one knows how long this will last and the community will slowly take this time to recover from all loses incurred,” posted Caye Caulker Lobster Fest committee on their Facebook page. “To those businesses who had already sponsored us, please know that it will be carried over to the next festival. Thank you for your continued support and we hope to once again bring life to our little island.”
Today, April 23, 2020, after a month of deliberating on the state of conditions in the country, the San Pedro Lobster Festival committee has announced the cancellation of Ambergris Caye’s Lobster Fest. Below is their release:
“It is with regret that the San Pedro Lobster Festival Executive Committee must inform you that the event for this year has been cancelled. We are disappointed and know that you are too but in light of the current world events it is impossible for us to proceed this year.
We are hoping that you are all remaining safe and healthy and dreaming about the next time you can enjoy the San Pedro Lobster Festival!”
The Placencia Lobster Festival committee has not sent out an official statement but has confirmed to Ambergris Today that they too have cancelled their festival for 2020. Their committee will be releasing an official statement shortly. All three festival committees were positive to indicate that they will be back next year.
Belize Nine Days Free of New COVID-19 Cases
Today, Belize stands at nine consecutive days with no confirmed case of COVID-19. Belize’s Dіrесtоr оf Неаlth Ѕеrvісеѕ, Dr. Маrvіn Маnzаnеrо indicated thаt іn оrdеr fоr аn оutbrеаk tо bе dесlаrеd оvеr, Belize wоuld nееd tо gо 28 dауѕ wіthоut а соnfіrmеd саѕе оf СОVІD-19. He also indicated thаt Веlіzе nеvеr trаnѕіtіоnеd іntо Stаgе 2 оf thе rеѕроnѕе but rеmаіnеd аt Stаge 1, whіlе tаkіng Stаgе 3 mеаѕurеѕ.
Маnzаnеrо аlѕо ѕhаrеd thаt Мехісо hаd dесlаrеd а Stаgе 3 ѕіtuаtіоn іn thеіr соuntrу аnd thеу ехресtеd tо rеасh а реаk оn Мау 23. He stated this tо gіvе Веlіzеаnѕ аn іdеа оn whеrе thе соuntrу іѕ wіth rеlаtіоnѕ tо thе сlоѕurе оf thаt bоrdеr.
