Preventing Childhood Obesity in Belize

Current efforts of the Belize Cancer Society has led to a partnership with the Office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children to highlight the prevalence of obesity within our child population in Belize.

With its inception in 2017,The Healthy Caribbean Coalition’s (HCC’s) Civil Society Action Plan 2017-2021: Preventing Childhood Obesity in the Caribbean has been geared towards the recognition and response to non-communicable diseases with its main focus being the consistent rise in cases of obesity within children.

With one in every three children in the Caribbean being overweight or obese, the goal of this plan is to have a multi-sectorial approach which is to include cultural sensitization, new legislation and proper public awareness of the plaguing issue.
