– Press Release, Washington University of Health and Science, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 – It saddens the administration, instructors, students, and staff of Washington University of Health and Science in announcing the sudden passing and loss of newly accepted medical student Suzanna Kaup on Tuesday. As a new first semester student to the medical university, Ms. Kaup began matriculating within the San Pedro, Ambergris Caye campus on May 12, 2014.
The U.S. Information Office of Washington University of Health and Science was contacted early Tuesday afternoon by a family member of Ms. Kaup indicating concern of her well-being, requesting assistance from the university to check-in on her. A medical doctor/instructor along with an administrative assistant of WUHS immediately went to her San Pedro residence where they received no response. Family members provided information which permitted authorities to enter her apartment. Upon entering the apartment, Ms. Kaup was located and immediate medical attention including CPR was administered by the physician in attendance.
Ms. Kaup was then transported to the local Poly-Clinic where she could be properly and medically attended to. A representative of Washington University of Health and Science was contacted later that evening by the senior physician of the Poly-Clinic indicating that Ms. Kaup had expired. Authorities indicated that her remains would be transported Tuesday evening to Belize City where she would be examined by the medical examiner and an autopsy would be performed. At the time of this release, WUHS has not been provided with the medical examiner/autopsy report.
Washington University of Health and Science immediately communicated with Suzanna’s family within the United States and provided the contact information for the representative of the U.S. Embassy who will communicate further the proper procedures protocol by which the family will follow with respect to this matter.
The medical university sincerely requests that full cooperation, respect and support be provided to family and friends of Ms. Kaup during their time of sorry and loss. (Ambergris Today also extends condolences to the family of Ms. Suzanna Kaup)
