A MASSIVE crowd of Belizeans, Belizean Friends, Belizean Relatives, Belizean Americans and Belizean Everything showed at Central Park in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye to the special viewing of Belize’s National Football Team (Belize Jaguars) first match at the Gold Cup Tournament against the United States of America on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
With assistance from the Belize Tourism Board, who supplied Dorian’s Angels with special ‘Belize’ noise-making vuvuselas, Sofie and Perlita were able to scour the island in search of happy and enthusiastic Belizean fans who came out to show their full support for the Belize Jaguars Team and hand them the party favors so that they could make MORE noise for Belize.
But the action was not reserved at Central Park; special house parties were organized and others made it to their favorite watering hole to share in the enthusiasm they were feeling as Belize made history by participating in its first Gold Cup Tournament. The Angels were greeted with high spirits from everybody they encountered at Central Park and all around town.
Seeing all the patriotism and even how Belizeans shared in the celebrations with American visitors and residents was very heartwarming for Dorian’s Angels. This one small event transformed San Pedro (and we are assuming other parts of the country) into a celebration only seen during our September/Independence Day festivities – Belizean Flags flying high, almost everybody wearing their Belize Jaguars jersey, Belizean colors, music, food and face-painted fanatics all making noise out on the streets.
There was no parade of celebration at game’s end as Belize lost the match against USA (6-1), but we could see how patriotic and how much love our people have for our little country. A lot of heart, a lot of LOVE!
Dorian’s Angels sends a big THANK YOU to the Belize Tourism Board for sending over the party favors to San Pedro. They surely helped everybody create more noise for our Beloved Belize.
