Belize Independence Day Eve in San Pedro – The rain had been pouring down all week, and honestly, I thought our patriotic celebrations were going to be a washout. But San Pedro got lucky, the rain gods gave us just enough of a break to welcome our 44th Independence anniversary with all the tradition, color, and energy we love so much.
Yes, I got wet a couple of times during the night, but honestly, that didn’t matter one bit. Nothing could dampen the spirit of Belize’s Independence Eve. The celebrations kicked off with the official guard inspection by Mayor Wally Nuñez, followed by the Belize Coast Guard raising our national flag with pride. At the stroke of midnight, a gunfire salute marked the exact moment of Independence, and then the sky lit up with a spectacular fireworks display that had everyone cheering.
Even when the showers rolled through, the party never stopped. Performances, music, dancing, and the sheer joy of our community carried us straight into the early hours of the morning. That’s the thing about San Pedro, no matter the weather, our patriotism always shines through. What a night! Wet shoes, big smiles, and a heart full of pride for Belize. 🇧🇿✨
