For years, the idea of public transportation in San Pedro felt like nothing more than talk around town, but now it’s finally happening. Amber Isle Public Transport has confirmed that it will soon launch the island’s very first bus service, and I honestly think this is going to be a game-changer for Ambergris Caye.
The company has shared that their focus will be on kindness, efficiency, safety, and affordability. For a place that has never had a formal public transportation system, this is truly historic. I can already see how both residents and visitors will benefit from having a cheaper and more reliable way to move around the island.
Details like fares, routes, and schedules haven’t been released just yet, but the buzz is already out there. Of course, not everyone is cheering, the local taxi associations are pushing back, worried about what this could mean for their business. And I get it; change always comes with challenges. But at the same time, I believe this is a step forward that San Pedro really needs.
Public Transportation for Growing Community
As our island continues to grow, so do our transportation needs. A service like this will help ease the burden, make getting around more accessible for everyone, and hopefully improve the overall flow of traffic too. I’ll be keeping an eye out for Amber Isle’s next announcements, but one thing feels certain: public transport in San Pedro is finally becoming a reality.

Today is October 7th. Hopefully, the schedule, prices, routes, and pickup locations will be published soon.
Good morning, I am very happy with this great news… I live in the north, 5.5 miles from town… I have two of us studying, one in high school and the other in elementary school… and sometimes I manage to get some transportation to take us and other times we walk… the school bus doesn’t pick them up because they are full. They told us… how much will the ticket cost?
A truly appreciated service for so many .
Great news . And much needed.
