Two of Belize’s most promising young athletes, Johann Marin and Alexa Acosta, both proudly hailing from San Pedro, La Isla Bonita, have made their mark on the international stage. Representing the Belize Weightlifting Federation, the duo competed with heart, strength, and determination at the 2025 Central American Games in Guatemala, making Belize proud in their first-ever international competition.
For Johann and Alexa, this experience marked not only a major milestone in their athletic careers but also a moment of national pride. Johann Marin, a seasoned weightlifter and respected CrossFit coach in San Pedro, stepped up to the platform with confidence and gratitude. Before competing, he shared:
“I wanna thank God for allowing me to be alive and healthy today as I approach my first weightlifting competition. I’m feeling the nerves, but I’m also grateful for my friends and family who have watched me grow in the sport and supported me up to this point. I’ll give it my all!”

Meanwhile, Alexa Acosta, who recently passed on her crown as Miss San Pedro 2024, made history as the first Belizean woman ever to compete in weightlifting at the Central American Games. “This is a historical moment!
