Flashback Friday: Colonial Charm in Old San Pedro

Colonial charm in San Pedro – Take a look at this beautiful piece of San Pedro’s past, a colonial-style wooden building that once stood proudly in the heart of town, full of island charm and character. I still get a little sentimental knowing it’s no longer there; time has a way of claiming even the places we thought would last forever.

This historic structure once housed the living quarters for the priest of the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church. Downstairs, the small but beloved San Pedro Town Library served the community during a much simpler era, when our streets were still sandy, traffic was light, and wooden architecture framed the coastline. Just steps away stood another icon of the village days: The Barrier Reef Hotel, adding its own charm to the neighborhood.

Colonial Charm is Gone

Today, the Colonial charm is gone, a modern concrete building sits in its place, now home to the church’s rectory, parish offices, and gift shop. It serves the community well, but there will always be something unforgettable about the elegance and warmth of that old colonial design. San Pedro has changed so much, yet pieces of its history continue to live in our memories, one flashback at a time.
