It’s Flashback Friday but this photo feels like a quiet Sunday morning in old San Pedro, when the streets belonged more to people than to vehicles. No rush, no engines roaring, just bare sandy roads and neighbors walking freely right down the middle of the street, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
You can tell this group is heading somewhere special. Everyone is dressed in their best, pressed shirts, dresses, even a baby in arms, all walking together as one, probably on their way to church, a wedding, a baptism, or some big community gathering. Back then, events weren’t just personal moments, they were community moments, and you didn’t go alone. You went together.
The wooden houses on stilts, the open verandahs, laundry hanging upstairs, and the simple fences all tell the story of a fishing village still finding its way, where life moved slower and people moved closer. No heavy traffic, no rush to beat the clock, just time… and togetherness.
Flashback Friday to Peaceful Streets
What I love most is how relaxed it all feels. No one is hugging the sidewalk because there really wasn’t a need for sidewalks. The street itself was part of daily life, for walking, talking, laughing, and watching the world go by.
Flashback Friday photos like this remind me that before the resorts, before the crowds, before the busy days, San Pedro was built on moments like these, family, faith, community, and simple island living. And even though so much has changed, that heart of togetherness still lives in us. 🌴✨ (Flashback photo by the late Kay Scott)
