Wow, what a difference! This week’s flashback takes us to Front Street, looking south from in front of the Holiday Hotel toward the San Pedro R.C. School at the beginning of the street. In the older photograph, a sandy road stretches between wooden buildings, with children walking and bicycles sharing the open space. It’s a familiar scene for those of us who remember walking these streets to school, stopping to greet friends along the way.
Now take a look at the second picture! Sand has given way to paving stones, more and bigger buildings line the street, and golf carts fill a view that once felt so spacious. Same street, same direction, but such a drastic change in the pace of island life.
How Front Street Looks Like Today
These side-by-side views remind us just how much San Pedro has grown. There’s something special about seeing the old neighborhood again, even in a photograph, and remembering the everyday moments that made it home. What do you remember most about sandy Front Street? Recognize any of the old buildings? Share your memories with us!
