Belize Red Cross San Pedro Shares Positive New Year Message

The San Pedro Branch of the Belize Red Cross (BRCSP) would like to wish everyone a healthy, safe and prosperous New Year.

San Pedro Red Cross is committed to Saving Lives and Changing History Through Helping our Community.

Our two primary ways of doing this are through Blood Drives and First Aid trainings.

Blood Drives

In 2016, BRCSP held 5 blood drives and collected 64 pints of blood. Blood Drives were held at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez Poly Clinic, San Carlos Medical Center and Washington University. As a result the San Pedro Branch was able to help 9 people in need receive 19 pints of blood.

Since the branch has started doing blood drives in 2013, the San Pedro Red Cross has collected 267 pints of blood for our Ambergris Caye Reserve and helped 19 people with 46 pints of blood.  Recipients were country wide from Ambergris Caye, Belize City, Caye Caulker, Dangriga and Orange Walk. Please keep in mind that pints of blood have a shelf life, so our quarterly Blood Drives are always important to make sure we have the capacity to help when needed.

First Aid

In an ongoing effort to strengthen the capacity of Ambergris Caye, three of our volunteers became First Aid and CPR Trainers.

The Executive board and volunteers would like to send a big thank you to all of the businesses on the the island who have sent staff for training in 2016.

In 2016 a total of 120 people were trained in FA/CPR, from the following businesses:

Victoria House, Sandy Point Resorts, San Pedro Fire Department, Rotary Club, Belize Electricity Ltd., New Horizons School, Mahogany Bay, Sam’s Pharmacy, San Pedro Sailing Club and Ambergris Caye Elementary School.

Since the branch’s re-inception in 2013, 383 people on Ambergris Caye have been First Aid and CPR trained and 2 children’s lives have been saved.

If you would like to send staff or take first aid and CPR please contact (course $50) info.brcsp@gmail.com

Other Events

Our Branch also helps the community through being present at events like Radio-a-thon for those affected by fire and hurricane, assessments for both and telethons for individuals with medical needs. After the fire assessments worked alongside Belize Telemeddia to hand out school supplies to those affected by the fire thanks to their generous donation.

BRCSP also hosted first aid booths and volunteer vacation groups coming to help the community. A few of the events this year were a First Aid and water station at the ACES run/walk for Autism Awareness, Free Dental Clinic, San Pedro Lobster Festival First Aid Booth, and the Wheelchair Foundation donation ceremony for Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.

Support and Fundraisers

San Pedro Town Council is always supportive of our work and assists with annual funding. In an effort to help us, the following businesses and people held fundraisers for us in 2016: Coco Loco’s, Stella’s Smile, Kelly McGuire, Dive Bar, Captain Morgan’s, Island Time and CG Esthetic. A big thanks goes to Crazy Canuck’s for their ongoing fundraising the last Friday of every month at Trivia night.
