Dorian’s Angels Visit Chaya Café at Zen Arcade

Dorian’s Angels have found an oasis in San Pedro, a place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life to relax. Zen Arcade is a new business in town where one can have a good time, rejuvenate in a fun, easy-going, uplifting and professional environment.

At Zen Arcade you can enjoy from calming yoga classes to energetic dance classes at their Tree Top Studio, plus get pampered at the Beauty Bar, pretty up from head to toe or enjoy massages from professional masseuse, get some botox work done (aesthetics), acupuncture. Mothers rejoice because they even offer child care!

Dorian’s Angels were in for a treat as Tara Darrall and Noele Sutherland McLain, owners of Zen Arcade invited them over for an afternoon of pampering and rejuvenation. Zen Arcade has a lot to offer and this week Dorian’s Angels brings you their experience at the Chaya Café!

Zen Arcade partnered with the ever popular Rojo Beach Bar of Azul Resort on North Ambergris Caye to bring you some of the freshest and tastiest food on the island. The Angels got a treat as they were the first to try the delicious food at Chaya Café before their grand opening. The Café is all about healthy and absolutely delicious food.

Some of you might ask what is Chaya? Well, it is also known as Tree Spinach, a large, fast growing leafy perennial shrub that is believed to have originated in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico and is very common here on the island. Chaya is a good source of protein, vitamins, calcium, and iron; and is also a rich source of antioxidants. Some of its health benefits include improving blood circulation, digestion, improving vision and lowering cholesterol, among a long list of other benefits.

At Chaya Café menu items are all prepared with the freshest produce which comes from the mainland including pork and chicken, fresh fruits and vegetables and only the freshest seafood. Danny Choc is Zen Arcades partner and Head Chef who creates delicious and nutritious dishes. He has trained under Jeff Spiegel from the famous Rojo Lounge for over 8 years and in collaboration with Jeff, Danny creates unique tasty nutritious foods to help us all stay strong and healthy.

A signature drink at Chaya Café is, of course, the Chaya Juice; it is a delicious mixture of chaya, pineapple, lime, banana, ginger and locally harvested honey. It is an energy drink like you have never tasted before and the Angels couldn’t get enough of it! It was simply delicious and refreshing.

Most of the menu items at the Chaya Café include the tasty leaf and needless to say the Angels were in ‘Chaya Heaven’ as they love eating chaya! (Elvi’s Kitchen made a special burger with chaya and named it the Ambergris Today Burger) We dipped and dug our way around the cheesy chaya dip that comes with a toasted baguette. Mmm mmm!!! To die for! A definite must try!!

That was just our appetizer and, well, it was finger licking good! We also got to sample the Raw Kale Salad – made with cucumber, tomato, red onions, homemade bacon, avocado, grated parmesan, breadcrumbs and homemade Caesar dressing. Make sure you also try their Spicy peanut noodles – handmade noodles with a chili peanut sauce, greens, cucumber, onion, cilantro and green onion! Angel Perlita is not much into salads, but she managed to hog the Kale Salad all to herself, it’s that good.

Other menu items include chaya quesadilla, roasted red pepper hummus, vegetarian breakfast burrito and a grilled club. Most menu items are vegetarian and/or can be prepared vegetarian and can also be served with corn tortilla chips for a gluten free option.

Chaya Café at Zen Arcade is located one block west of the Island Academy (a left trun behind the Bowen and Bowen (Belikin) warehouse or 1/2 block south of the Poly Clinic; it’s a blue and white building. Be sure to drop by and don’t forget: If Dorian’s Angels recommend it – It’s Gotta Be GOOD!!!
