The best days of sports in San Pedro could have been in the 1980’s under Town Board Councilors Omar Guerrero and Nicolas Varela. There was a constant promotion of sports and most of them held at Central Park where the entire town came out on a daily or nightly basis to participate or enjoy. There was the season for five a side which drew thousands. Then there was the season for volleyball, and then basketball. In this flashback you see Scout leaders Hector Trejo, Kevin Gonzalez and Ismael Nuñez for the opening ceremonies of the five a side tournament. Lined up at the back are famous sports figures like Tino Gonzalez and Felipe Paz. Cholo and Omero were certainly there as were Gerald Leslie, Armando Gonzalez among others. Happy days for sporting events in the past.
