Tourists visiting San Pedro, Ambergris Caye in the 1960’s certainly enjoyed the island in its simplicity and grandeur. There was the Holiday Hotel with ceiling fans only and windows that allowed the coolness of morning breeze, the comfort of the noon Caribbean breeze, and the freshness of the night sea breeze. There were the pristine white sandy beaches inviting for a barefooted stroll. Yes, there was your tourist guide, like Pete Graniel, always willing to do as you pleased. If you caught some snappers, that was your dinner for the day or if you reeled in some mackerels, like this day, then smoked mackerel complemented your dining table. Of course there were Belkin beers going along in your ice cooler too but those were not to be reeled in. Indeed what you saw is what you got and it still holds true today.
