Connections to help Boost Tourist Arrivals

Town Council’s Connection s with Belize Eco Adventure will help with Island’s Tourism

On April 24, 2009 Mayor Elsa Paz visited Los Angeles, California upon invitation from the Consul General of Belize to California, Hon. Roland H. York. The purpose of the trip was to meet with Belizeans living in LA and for Belizeans to meet with some of the Representatives of Belize. During the trip they met with their lovely guide Mrs. Marsha Vargas owner of Belize Eco Adventures, who was on the island last week on a business trip.

The Mayor’s Assistant, Mr. Felix Ayuso, hosted Mrs. Vargas during her trip and he explained to us what the purpose of her trip was all about. “Her business, Belize Eco Adventures, provides eco-tourism vacations and she plans on having groups of 10 to 30 persons flying in to Belize on a weekly basis,” commented Mr. Ayuso.

Belize Eco Adventures packages will include direct flight from Los Angeles to Belize and will host the groups for three nights in San Pedro and the rest of the trip at San Ignacio. During their stay in the country visitors will be exposed to the unique eco-diversity of Belize; rainforests, coral reefs, Mayan ruins, cave systems, wildlife and much more.

While in San Pedro Mrs. Vargas visited several hotels which included Las Terrazas, Captain Morgan’s Retreat, Blue Tang Inn, Ramon’s Village, The Villas at Banyan Bay, Banana Beach Resort, Mata Rocks and the San Pedro Holiday Hotel. These are some of the hotel she plans on having the tourists stay, depending on their budget.

“We are very grateful to Mrs. Vargas for promoting our island. It is great to know that business will be picking up in the island” commented Mr. Ayuso. “Although Mayor Paz is always out on trips she is always doing her best to help out San Pedro. We have been benefiting from many trips. For instance, the sister city relationship with Wilmington, has helped us in getting the street sweeper. Schools are also benefiting from this relationship with grants and cultural exchanges. And now this trip to L.A. where we met Mrs. Vargas, we are going to be bearing fruits very soon.”
