Belize Turns Red Manuel Heredia Wins BRS Constituency

It was a landslide General Election for the United Democratic Party as the entire country went from blue to red with the People’s United Party only winning six seats in the House of Representatives.

Here in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Manuel Heredia won the most popular votes, beating out Mel Spain and Ernesto Caliz and retaining the seat as Area Representative of Belize Rural South.

Manuel Heredia UDP – 2488 Votes
Murlene Spain PUP – 1464 Votes
Ernesto Caliz NRO – 54 Votes

Party supporters paraded through the streets of San Pedro Town at four in the morning after the official numbers were announced. The Hon. Dean Barrow will be the new Prime Minister of Belize as the UDP won 25 seats in government. The six PUP candidates that won in their constituencies were: Said Musa (Fort George), Francis Fonseca (Freetown), Mark Espat (Albert), Cordel Hyde (Lake Independence), Florencio Marin (Corozal South East) and Johnny Briceño (Orange Walk Central).
