Boat Parade Donates to Two Causes

On Tuesday, January 27, 2009 the San Pedro Boat Parade Committee handed out donations to two island organizations. A check of $1,000 was handed by Jan Brown (Chairlady of Boat Parade Committee) to the San Pedro Aids Commission in support for their educational program and Fred Somes (Committee Member) handed out a check of $500 to the Holy Cross Anglican School to assist them with their food program which serves breakfast and lunch to over 400 students at the school on a daily basis.

During the Boat Parade event the committee was also glad to extend assistance to Saga Humane Society and the San Pedro Lion’s Club with space for them to carry out their own fundraiser. Luis Uribio Passes Before Help Could Reach Him

Another group of concerned citizens has contributed towards assisting San Pedro Dolphin soccer player Luis Uribio with urgent needed money for him to obtain proper medical attention after a head injury left him seriously ill.

Joe Castleberry presented a check to Luis’ mother on Tuesday, January 27, on behalf of a group of concerned citizens who have made many contributions in the past towards medical emergencies. The money was raised in previous fundraisers held by the group.

Luis is being tended to in a hospital in Guatemala and remains in a coma under critical conditions after being diagnosed with a brain tumor and meningitis caused by his injuries.

>EDITOR’S NOTE: On behalf of the San Pedro Community and the Uribio Family we applaud and thank the noble efforts of Joe Castleberry and the Concerned Citizen’s Group as well as Pamela Zetina and the community fund raising, but just a few hours before going to press, Ambergris Today was informed of the sad passing away of Luis “Wicho” Uribio. Preparations are under way to bring the body to San Pedro.
