The San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival Committee has announced the dates for Costa Maya Festival 2009 to be from August 6 to August 9. The committee members met this past weekend to start deliberations and get the ball rolling with preparations for this year’s festival.
This year the Festival will celebrate the 15th year of the Reina de la Costa Maya pageant and will have a Caribbean theme to it – celebrating the regional culture that binds all the Central American countries together. All the eight countries are expected to participate once again.
The hunt for the next international artist to grace the stage on Saturday night has begun with the names of Olga Tañon, Marco Antonio Solis, Yuri and Aventura thrown on the decision table. An invitation has been extended to Ms. Lupita Jones, Miss Universe 1991, to visit the island and country for a promotional tour for the Costa Maya Festival. And guess what! An invitation has also been extended to Fabiola Rodas to perform once again, now that she has garnered international fame and is on her way of becoming a super artist.
