Projects like Reef Village and especially South Beach Belize have created quite a stir in the island and now another development project is raising eyebrows and red flags – Venecia Del Mar. The project site is located on Ambergris Caye west of the airport. This project has brought lots of concerns to airline officials as it proposes a threat to the airway path.
Venecia Del Mar comprises of three main structures to house 48 hotel rooms and two buildings for six additional Town Home Villas. Also another part of the project is Blue Wave Condominiums which comprises seven buildings with 49 condos and two Calle Del Mar Villas. All of these along with shops, stores, restaurants, patios and pools is proposed to be built in a total of 80 acres of land of which 29 acres are dedicated to water development.
And is if this project being near the airstrip is not enough, the developer remains unknown and sources tell us that this project applied for a LLES (Limited Level Environmental Study) which is for small building project unlike theirs which requires an EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment). The LLES of Venecia del Mar is currently under review by the Department of Environment.
The Department of Environment and Forestry will be meeting with the ACCSD on Wednesday, April 1, where projects such as South Beach, Venecia del Mar, and Mayan Islands among others will be discussed; everyone is invited to attend the meeting.
