It’s that time of the year when cruise ships are sailing the beautiful water of Belize and tourist arrivals are at its best. Many families and friends take trips on the cruise lines to get to know the beauty of the Caribbean and have a good time. But unfortunately for one family on board the Liberty of the Seas, one of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, their dream vacation was cut short as one of their family members either jumped or fell to his death from the 12th level of the cruise line.
According to 7 News, a 21-year-old cruise visitor to Belize never made it to shore on Wednesday, January 5, because he either jumped or fell to his death from the 12th level of a luxury cruise liner called Liberty of the Seas.
His family noticed that he was missing around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, and when he couldn’t be found on the ship – the crew reviewed video from the security cameras. The cameras showed him jumping – or falling – from the twelfth deck of the ship at 3:25 a.m. That deck is over a 100 feet above the sea. It is estimated to have happened 6 miles west of Maaga Caye Lighthouse at Turneffe Island – which is out in the blue where the depth of the sea is in the hundreds of feet.
That’s still in Belizean waters and the Belize Coast Guard and Belize Port Authority carried out searches but to no avail. Liberty of the Seas is part of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and is a 15 deck carrier with a passenger capacity of 3,634. (News Source 7 News)
