It was a great turn out for the San Pedro Cancer Society’s first Candle Lit Cancer Walk on World Cancer Awareness Day February 4, 2011. Island residents took to the streets for a walk around the main streets of San Pedro to create awareness about the disease.
The show of support is an indication of how cancer has affected the lives of many residents both directly or indirectly. People came out with their T-shirts, candles and pictures on hand of family members or friends that have been affected by the disease. Some cherished the memories of loved ones lost, while others celebrated the triumph of their loved ones battle with cancer.
Then on Sunday, February 6, the Cancer Society held an all day fundraiser at the Lions Den with a food sale, auction and raffles. It was a fun event to continue observing and celebrating World Cancer Day. Kudos to the San Pedro Cancer Society and all those who make the weekend events possible.
