Mr. Jack, as he is lovingly referred to recently had an opportunity to meet and talk with Actor and activist Ted Danson during his first ever visit to Belize early December 2010.  By then Danson had already heard much about Mr. Jack from other Oceana staff and donors who had visited Placencia and thus it peaked his interest to meet this Belizean legend.

On Wednesday, December 2010, Ted Danson gave a moving presentation at the Bliss Centre for Performing Arts, as part of the Board Activities of Oceana in Belize. There Danson had the honor of meeting Mr. Jack for the first time and presenting him the first ever ‘Oceana Ocean Hero Award’.

The book which is over 300 pages, features Captain Carlton “Jack” Young at page 84 and gives prominence to Belize as a marine based society.

The book which chronicles what sparked Danson’s interest in being an advocate for health oceans is science based and looks at the issue of marine protection in a global context and features many other personalities Danson has met worldwide during his work with Oceana.
