Eighteen students who are part of the International Studies Program at Watson School of Education – University of North Carolina Wilmington, are in San Pedro for five weeks to complete their Student Teaching Requirement here on La Isla Bonita.
The students will be doing their internship and volunteering their services at three schools, San Pedro R.C. School, Isla Bonita Elementary School and San Pedro High School. The leaders of the group are Dr. Dennis Kubasko and Dr. Susan Catapano.
This international field experience is to provide teacher candidates with the opportunity to teach lessons at different schools, thereby giving students an opportunity to instruct Belizean children, merging US teaching methodologies with Belizean strategies.
It also focuses on current issues and trends in global education, the development, implementation, and assessment of curricular materials; and the evaluation and use of technology in the classroom as well as other effective instructional strategies.
During their stay, the group plans on having an excursion inland and other community service projects around the island. The group hopes to continue providing the teaching service between Wilmington, North Carolina and San Pedro.

Students at San Pedro High School: Christina Walts, Stacey Auman, Casey Weaver, Dr. Dennis Kubasko, Tarrah Johnson, Nick Corak and Ashton Allgood.
