Her Worship Mayor Elsa Paz joined other Mayors of Belize in London for a two-week period to attend a conference in Cardiff, Wales in the UK. The contingency of Mayors left on Saturday, March 12 to Miami, Florida where they met with Janine Sylvestre, Honorary Consul General of Belize in Florida and other distinguished individuals.
During their first week in London they attended the Commonwealth Local Government Conference which was held under the theme “Energizing Local Economies”. Mayor Paz stated to Ambergris Today that the conference was about meeting with other partners, sharing ideas and experiences so as to strengthen the government.
The schedule of the second week of the trip took the Mayors of Belize to attend various meetings in several municipalities. The Belizean delegation met with the Deputy Mayor of London, met with Lord Ashcroft and also had the opportunity to visit a factory where Belizean sugar is processed (Tate & Lyle).
This conference is spearheaded but The British High Commission every two years and the next conference will the held in Africa.
