Belize’s Best Softball Teams to Face Off in San Pedro
Press Release – San Pedro Town Council – April 13, 2011 – Nine male softball games will take place during the first annual High School Softball Cup in San Pedro Town organized by the San Pedro Town Council and the San Pedro High School. For the inaugural tournament the four teams that participated in the 2011 High School National Softball Championship will face off. San Pedro Town will welcome National Champions Belmopan Comprehensive School, National Sub- Champions Independence High School, St. John’s College and host San Pedro High School.
The action kicks off on Friday, April 29, at the Old Football Field with Belmopan Comprehensive School, two-time National Champions, taking on 2011 sub-champions Independence High School at 1:00 p.m. After a day and a half of competition the championship action starts on Sunday, May 1, with the third place game at 9:00 a.m. and the championship game at 1:00 p.m. following an exhibition game between a San Pedro Selection and San Pedro High School Alumni Selection. A complete schedule of the High School Softball Cup is listed below.
At the completion of the tournament 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place trophies will be presented to the participating teams by Mayor Elsa Paz and San Pedro High School’s sports coordinator, Mr. Paul Kelly. Individual trophies for MVP, Most Wins, Most Strikeouts, Most Homeruns, Best Infield, Best Outfield, Most RBI’s and Best Batting Average will be presented by former San Pedro High School alumni softball standouts. Tournament Director is Marion Mejia of the San Pedro Town Council.
