“Education Empowers: Creating Change, Nurturing Minds, Embracing the Future”
This year education week was observed from Tuesday, May 3 to Friday, May 13 all over Belize under the theme “Education Empowers: Creating Change, Nurturing Minds, Embracing the future”.
As part of celebrating education week, schools on the island held several activities including crazy day, career day, and cup cake sales, among others. The San Pedro R.C. School held several activities including hosting Mr. Angel Nuñez to a morning assembly in which he talked about “Our San Pedro Roots”.
Career day was held on Wednesday, May 14 where the school children dressed up in uniforms of their favorite careers. Many dressed up as doctors, teachers, soldiers and pilots to name a few. Another group of students headed to the streets and showed an act of kindness by giving back to the community and visited several businesses sharing delicious cookies to all; Ambergris Today got some delicious cookies and brownies.
On Thursday, May 12 the entire student body held hands around the school building to “hug” their school. Children waved to passersby and cheerfully chanted “We love our school, Que viva RC School”.
Students were in for a treat as on Friday, May 13 they were given the day off in observance to Teachers Day. This year’s theme focuses on the enormous potential of education for improving our individual and collective lives, for forming better persons and better communities, for contributing to social and economic development – “Education Empowers: Creating Change, Nurturing Minds, Embracing the Future”!!!
