New School Building For Caye Caulker RC School

Earlier this month the San Pedro Junior College inaugurated its new building, the Hon. Manuel Heredia Hall. It was a memorable occasion as many students will benefit from this much needed building. And on Thursday, June 23, Caye Caulker residents were elated as they officially broke ground to a much needed school building for the Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School.

The Primary School has been in much need of space for the past six years and with the help of the Caye Caulker Village Council the official ground breaking ceremony took place at the school compound. According to Mr. Alberto Villanueva, Chairperson of the Caye Caulker Village Council, the project was financed by the Caye Caulker Village Council along with the great help of the Chinese Community in Caye Caulker. Additional funds were handed to the school for the project by Belize Rural South Area Representative, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr.

“For me it is extremely important that young people are empowered to have an education and they are empowered to be in a comfortable space so even though resources are limited,” stated Manuel Heredia – Belize Rural South Area Representative. “I still made an effort from the BTB point of view to contribute $10,000.00 towards this project and I am sure that with the assistance of the town council and the little funds that have been raised by the teachers this will become a reality.”

School Principal Enelda Rosado stated the new space will be alleviating several problems the school has been facing as the student population keeps growing. In addition, Rosado said the new space will allow the school to reopen the library and home economics room that had been shifted to accommodate children. The project is estimated to cost around $80,000. The aim is to open the new building by the start of the new school year. (News Source: Love FM)
