Traffic Accident Leaves Golf Cart in Wheelies

It was an odd sight as motorist drove by the scene of this accident that left a rental golf cart standing on its two back wheels and jammed behind a BEL utility truck on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

The irony of it all is that the traffic wardens had just finished conducting their traffic check point just a few yards away from the scene when the accident occurred shortly after 8:30pm. on Sea Grape Drive at the corner of Julia Garden’s apartments.

“We were sitting inside the truck finishing up our paper work for the day when we felt and heard the big bang behind our truck,” commented one of the Belize Electricity Limited workers to Ambergris Today.

To their surprise, they saw the golf cart jammed behind the truck in a wheelies position. The driver of the golf cart had attempted to make a right turn into the street adjoining the main road when the cart’s roof got caught onto an aluminum ladder that was fastened on top of the BEL utility truck. The speed of the cart and the force of the impact lifted the front of gold cart into the air and left it hanging on its two back wheels.

Witnesses described the drive and passenger of the golf cart as two young men. They both fled the area while the police and Crystal golf cart rental personnel examined the scene of the accident and tried to identify and locate them. No one was injured in the accident.
