Joyful Junnie Running on Four Legs to a Happy Future

– Press Release, Saga, July 13, 2011 – Junnie was just 12 weeks old when she was brought into SAGA by a boy. SAGA is always pleased when people bring their animals to them for help and advice, but it is sad when it seems that the only people who care about the animals are the children. So, when the SAGA staff saw the pitiful condition that Junnie had been allowed to get into, they couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Where are the responsible adults, who should be making sure that this boy can care for this puppy?’

Junnie was not only malnourished and dehydrated – simply because no one had bothered to make sure she had food and water – but she also had a broken leg. The wonderful SAGA team medicated the puppy, bandaged the leg and gave the boy advice on how to care for Junnie, stressing how important it was to clean the leg frequently; a big responsibility for a boy.

Two days later the boy returned to SAGA with the puppy. Junnie was looking and smelling much worse. The boy had not cared for Junnie or cleaned her leg and now she was in a terrible state. Realizing that without proper adult supervision there was no way this boy was able to care for Junnie and save her life, the SAGA team had no other choice but to confiscate the puppy for neglect. Of course, SAGA would love to see all puppies remain in their homes, but it was clear that there was very little love or care available for Junnie if she was left where she was.

Because Junnie’s leg had been allowed to get into such a bad condition, the SAGA team seriously considered amputation. But since no one had ever given Junnie much of a chance in her young life, the team decided to do everything they could to make sure to save her life and her leg.

They fitted her with a cast, treated her with loving kindness, kept her under close veterinary care and supervision and now, three months later, Junnie’s leg is healed and she can run into her future with four legs instead of three. Junnie is five months old now still needs some tender loving care, but she’d be much happier in a loving forever home, where she can get the love she’s always needed.

Please remember that children must always be supervised when caring for pets. If you know of a dog or cat suffering from neglect please call SAGA on 226 3266 and they will be more than happy to help.
