One thing that is for sure is that the delegates for the Costa Maya Pageant have a fantastic time in Belize for one complete week before pageant night. They have nothing but great things to say about their experiences and about the friendliness and warmth of our country’s people. From the minute that they all step onto San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, they are taken for a whirlwind of fun island style; signature of La Isla Bonita.
Elvi’s Kitchen Hosts Maya Style
The eight contestants had a fantastic cultural evening at Elvi’s Kitchen on Friday, July 29, 2011, as they were hosted on their Friday’s Maya Buffet Night. Mrs. Elvia Staines, and her staff, personally presented the ladies with one of the restaurant’s best cuisine, the Maya feast. Needless to say the food was enjoyed by everybody and the night ended with much dancing with the music of Maikel Garcia on the keyboard and saxophone.
The Ladies Take on Sea Trek
Discovery Expeditions was happy to have the Costa Maya contestants experience one of the Island’s newest marine tourist attractions –Sea Trek . The ladies were all excited to experience the underwater spectacular that is the Great Barrier Reef of Belize and the trek equipment allowed just for that. They walked the sea bottom with helmets that allowed them to appreciate the coral reef much like, but very different, than scuba diving. They were all very fascinated with the experience on Saturday, July 30, 2011.

Gambling and Fundraiser at Captain’s Casino
Captain Morgan’s Captain’s Casino was host to the contestants on Monday, August 1, 2011, including the Poker King of Belize, Badih Bounarha in a night they called “Ladies and the Champ”. The casino was packed to capacity as Saga Humane Society was invited by the Casino to hold a fundraiser for the organization. Patrons of the casino and supporters of Saga paid to have their picture taken with the eight beauty contestants, of which proceeds went to Saga.
Belize participant at the World Series of Poker Hold ‘Em Championship in Las Vegas Badih Bounarha was also interacting with the crowd and playing some poker while the ladies took to the slot machines for a little gambling fun. A couple of them even came out as winners with some cash on hand. It was a very fun night which also served as a fundraiser for a worthy organization.
