Like the pieces of a puzzle, the stage backdrop changed scenes as the five beauty contestants also changed from their cultural costumes, swimsuits and to their evening gowns. The stage set the mood with murals of a coconut plantation, changing to a fishing village and finally setting the stage to what San Pedro has become – a Mecca of the tourism industry in Belize. And it was in this setting that Yakaralis Hernandez wowed the audience and judges into becoming our next Miss San Pedro 2011-2012.
Yakarelis and the four other contestants Josie Lopez, Trisha Acosta, Christine Syme and Joey Eiley graced the stage with their elegance, intelligence and beauty during the Miss San Pedro Pageant which kicked off the September Celebration here in San Pedro, on Saturday, September 3, 2011.
Pageant organizers promised a spectacular show and they delivered. The Pageant went under the theme “A Unique Paradise – An Island Fiesta”. It was a fiesta that depicted the vibrant growing industries such as Coconut Farming, Fishing and Tourism. Each contestant represented a particular fiesta or industry of the island – Josie Lopez dressed up in Carnaval Fete, Trisha Acosta honored the Lobster Festival, Christine Syme paid tribute to our Patron Saint Peter, Joey Eiley celebrated Belize 30th Independence with Red, Blue and White and Yakarelis Hernandez represented our fishing tournaments.
The contestants stepped on stage from a giant lobster trap to enchant the audience in the swimsuit competition which Sunrise Realty sponsored and all the contestants handled themselves very well during the question and answer segment that followed the evening gown competition. They were stunning and gave very intelligent answers.
During each segment of the pageant entertainment was provided by the San Pedro Dance Company and Truth in Motion. Judging the pageant were Gaylene Tesucum, Miguel Guerrero, Ivette Martin, Clive Meyers and Karen Burke Young.
Miss Congeniality and First Runner up was awarded to Christine Syme and Yakarelis Hernandez took the title of Miss San Pedro 2011-2012 including Miss Photogenic. Along with the title, Yakarelis will take with her any array of great prizes totaling $5,000 in cash and gifts. All other contestants will be getting great consolation prizes as well.
Yakarelis Hernandez will be officially crowned our new Miss San Pedro by outgoing Miss San Pedro Natasha Stuart on September 10, 2011, St. Georges Caye Day as San Pedro parades in honor of the Battle of St. Georges Caye, a national and bank holiday in Belize.
