Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians: Registration and Licensing of Technicians – Belmopan, 8th September, 2011 – License Applications for Certified and Licensed Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician for both 2011 and 2012 are now being accepted by the Department of the Environment.
This is an integral part of the on-going effort to gradually phase-out the importation of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs); it will do so even whilst making available low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) alternatives to ODSs and promoting their associated energy-efficiency counterpart. As well, this will promote Good Practices in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry of Belize, the Department of the Environment.
The exercise is being carried out in conjunction with the Association of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians (ARACT) of Belize and will be as follows:
For 2011 applicants: Kindly note that individuals who submitted license applications and were granted Certificates of Registration and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Licenses for 2010, should only submit completed application forms and a digital photograph.
First time applicants are required to send completed application form, one digital photograph, original updated Police Record (with photograph), one copy of Social Security Card or one copy of Passport, one copy of certificate on Good Practices in Refrigeration or any other qualification, or a letter of recommendation (should the applicant not have any certificate in training).
Furthermore, individuals who submitted license applications during 2010, but which for some reason were not processed, are hereby requested to submit to the Department of the Environment the document(s) pending from their applications. The Department of the Environment will continue to accept such applications until 19th October, 2011.
Individuals applying to become Certified and Licensed Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians for 2011 are informed that they do not need to sit “admission examinations” for the classes applied for, nor do they need to pay any “application fee.”
For 2012 applicants: 2012 license applications to become a Certified and Licensed Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician should be submitted to the Department no later than 15th December, 2011. Therefore, persons interested in applying for 2012 license are strongly encouraged to apply well before this deadline.
Second time applicants are required to submit completed application form, sit and pass an examination for the Class he/she is applying for, and pay BZE $200.00 application fee at Scotiabank account name “Association of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technician.”
First time applicants must provide the above information and also a digital photograph, original updated Police Record (with Photograph), one copy of Social Security Card or one copy of Passport, one copy of certificate on Good Practices in Refrigeration or any other qualification, and a letter of recommendation (should the applicant not have any certificate in training).
Upon applying, all payment receipts must be copied and submitted with the applicant’s names at the back. Kindly take note that individuals having already applied for 2011 and consequently paid a BZE $200.00 application fee (or BZE $100.00) are informed that such payments will be forwarded towards their 2012 application fees.
Practicing Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians are hereby once more reminded that, in accordance with section 19 (1) of the Refrigeration Technicians (Licensing) Act, 2010, “No person shall engage in the practice of refrigeration and air conditioning or hold himself out as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician unless that person is licensed under such Act.” Strict enforcement of the law will begin 1st January 2012 for violations encountered.
