The flag monument at the Northern round-a-bout was the venue on Wednesday, September 8, for a brief visit of 32 queens from across Mexico who will compete among each other to represent that country at the Miss Earth Pageant later this year in Thailand. The Miss Earth Mexico 2011 delegation was joined by the reigning and designates Queen of the Bay and Queens of the Bay from New York and California.
Following the event, Belize City Mayor, Zenaida Moya told Love News that while the event was to welcome 32 young ambassadors from Mexico, it was planned as part of Belize’s September celebrations to expose Belize internationally.
The Miss Earth Pageant to select a representative for Mexico will take place on Sunday, September 11 in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, while the international Miss Earth Pageant will take place on November 12, 2011 in Pattaya, Thailand with over 130 countries, including Belize, taking part.
A press release by Belize International Pageants Ltd. stated that Miss Monique Habet was crowned Miss Earth Belize 2011 on July 23 but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, Miss Habet’s additional duties have compelled her to apologetically renounce the crown and her title.
The release continued stating that this ordeal has left the Belize International Pageants Committee with no other option than to entrust both crown and title to capable Kiasha Bevans, the contestant who earned the title 1st runner-up. The committee congratulates Miss Bevans and we trust that she will be an outstanding environmental role model for Belize.
