SP Cancer Society Blood Drive a Success

The San Pedro Cancer Society once again teamed up with the Belize National Blood Transfusion Service for its 2nd Annual Blood Drive which was held on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Island Galleria. The blood drive was a total success and the food sale also raised funds for the Cancer Society.

Blood health professionals from Belize City were at the Island Galleria conducting their services. A total of 50 persons showed up to donate blood but many due to some medical reason and medications taken they were not able to donate. A total of 19 units of blood were collected, that was two more than last year’s blood drive.

According the San Pedro Cancer Society they made a total of $805.00 which will go towards their savings accounts which is used to assist cancer patients. “We currently have a few patients on the island and one in Caye Caulker that we are assisting,” stated Monica Prevett. “The blood collected is available for our cancer patients as well as Island residents in need of blood for surgery or other emergencies.”

If anyone is in need of blood, the cancer society must be contacted in order for the blood to be released to anyone. Persons in need can contact Monica Prevett at 665-0611 or Miguel Perez at 670-1293. A huge thanks to all who donated and all who supported the San Pedro Cancer Society at this year’s blood drive and fundraiser event.
