San Pedro invited to Participate in Chetumal Festival

Our beautiful island of San Pedro has been invited to participate in a Festival of Culture that will be held in our neighboring city Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Mayor Elsa Paz held a small meeting with business executives to formally invite them to participate in this event.

Present at the meeting were representative of the San Pedro Business Association, Belize Tourism Industry Association, Tropic Air, Maya Island and Belize Tourism Board. The Mayor stated that the country of Belize was invited to participate with a special invitation being sent to  San Pedro.

The San Pedro Town Council will be representing the island and will be providing entertainment at the festival with San Pedro’s very own Rompe Raja, Will and Dale and the San Pedro Dance Company. Minister Heredia has also promised the participation of the Belize National Dance Company and a steel band as part of Belizean entertainment.

Mayor Paz is extending an open invitation to all business of San Pedro that wish to participate in this culture festival. The designated area for San Pedro/Belize to set up booths and exhibits will be in front of Los Cocos Hotel; the area can accommodate about 15 to 20 booths.

Anyone interested in participating in this event and promote their business in this international festival can contact the Mayor’s assistant Mr. Felix Ayuso at the San Pedro Town Council. Package deals for hotel accommodations and transportation is being worked on.

About the Festival de Cultura del Caribe
The International Festival of Caribbean Culture (Festival de Cultura del Caribe) has been dormant for over nine years and this year the government of Quintana Roo has decided to revive the festival. The Festival will take place on the second week of November with the participation of artists from Mexico, Cuba and Belize.

The Mexican government has secured 2.5 million pesos for the festival.  With this new edition of International Festival of Caribbean Culture it is intended that the national and foreign tourists come to know Quintana Roo and other Caribbean countries and their traditions and customs.

The festival will take place from Saturday, November 12 to Saturday, November 19, and will commence in Cancun and culminate in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. The event in Chetumal will include two days of celebration, with musicalbands, plays, dance and literary exhibitions. There will be participation from ten countries including Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica and others.
