He’s the third Belize Road Warrior to visit the country through promotional arrangement made between the Belize Tourism Board and MatadorU program. Travel writer Norberto Figueroa of Globo Treks has been in Belize for a month now and Ambergris Today caught up with him during his visit to La Isla Bonita, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.
Norbert has been dancing punta, fishing and diving off the coast of Plancencia; exploring caves, waterfalls, visiting Maya Ruins and learning to make corn tortillas with the Maya in Punta Gorda; kayaking, diving and exploring our neighboring island of Caye Caulker and now he is in San Pedro catching up on adventures closer to the Great Barrier Reef of Belize.
AT editor Dorian Nuñez got to spend some time with Norbert on Sunday, November 6, 2011, after being on the island for a few days; he loves it, of course! He has been diving quite a few time, visiting the sharks and Shark Ray Alley, snorkeling, beach combing, exploring the Marco Gonzalez Archeological Maya Site and taking in the island charm.
“San Pedro and Caye Caulker are very different,” he tells Ambergris Today. “Both of them have their unique charm that makes each place unique and attractive. Belize has been such a great experience for me; I am loving every second of it. There is so much going on, especially here on Ambergris Caye.”
Norbert and Dorian got some time to get acquainted over Panti Rippers at Caliente Restaurant and even a Bitters shot at Jambel’s Jerk Pit. He was actually working on a piece of local drinks and Dorian had to be a good host. No one got drunk in the process, promise!
Norbert still has until the end of the year to explore Belize. Next on his itinerary are trips to Corozal, Orange Walk, Cayo and Punta Gorda to experience the Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations. We invite him to come back to San Pedro during the New Year’s Day celebrations as we all know how alive the island gets around that time.
