More than just a national airline, with its 14 connections throughout the country, Tropic Air has become a regional airline with its two flights to Guatemala and now its first to Honduras. On Monday, March 12, the airline introduced its direct flight from Belize to San Pedro Sula, Honduras and offering an introductory rate of $99US (one way) for the month of March.
It’s an hour-long flight that departs from the Phillip Goldson International Airport three times a week, and by 9a.m. you can find yourself in beautiful Honduras. If the length of the flight scares you a bit, there is no need to fret. Before I could complete two three levels on Angry Birds, I was already there. Then again, the flight is one of the most amazing and picturesque there are and I was totally distracted and blown away with the view outside my window.

The flight is over water 90% of the time as it skims the entire coast of Belize. You get to take in the beautiful coastline and admire in awe the fringe reefs and barrier islands that line the coast; it’s simply mind-blowing. As you reach the Honduran coast, you get to see the industrial bay, the mountains, crop fields and hill-top homes before you land at the San Pedro Sula International Airport.
Making it through immigration and customs is a breeze and then you are off to explore Honduras as you may. The airport is very modern and clean and the Tropic Air staff is very friendly and helpful around the place.
Tropic Air is bridging a gap and offering fast and convenient connections to our neighboring countries in Central America which are also opening new tourism links between these two countries. Bookings from San Pedro Sula are already looking up, with a few groups already making reservations to visit Belize around Easter time.
“We are continuously seeking new and innovative routes that promote tourism, business, travel and cargo within Belize and in the region,” said John Greif III, President of Tropic Air. “San Pedro Sula is just such a destination for the Airline of Belize”
Tobon Jimena Fernández, sales representative Tropic Air in Honduras said that this new flight will generate an average of ten jobs in that country. Tropic Air has intentions of expanding in Honduras with the opening of direct flights to other cities in the country like La Ceiba and Roatan.
