Ana Medrano – Mother Of The Year 2012

It was another impressive event this year as the San Pedro Town Council held its annual Mother’s Day Extravaganza on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Mrs. Ana Medrano was named Mother of the Year and Mexican entertainer Pierre David stole the show with his spectacular performances.

It was a fun-filled evening for all mothers to enjoy.  The highlight was the coronation of Mother of the Year 2012, Mrs. Ana Medrano, whose name was drawn from a list of other candidates. Mother of the Year 2011, Mrs. Yolanda Ayuso was present to crown the new Mother of the Year along with Miss San Pedro, Yakarelis Hernandez and Miss Lions Shantell Pascassio.

A very happy and elated Ana accepted the honor and was all smiles the rest of the evening. Originally from El Salvador, Mrs. Medrano has been living in our beautiful island for 29 years. She owns Ana’s Store in the San Marcos Area and is the proud mother of Christian Medrano and has four beautiful grandchildren.

During the special evening last Saturday, mothers in attendance were also treated to a gourmet turkey dinner, delicious dessert and complimentary drinks. Other highlights of the evening were presented by Pierre David and all his imitations, local entertainment by Barbara’s Dance Group, The San Pedro Dance Company and singing by Elina Palma.

Everyone present had a blast as brave mothers partook in a hotly contested dance competition. Prizes were given out to the first mother to arrive, the tenth mother to arrive, mother with a toy in her purse, mother with most elegant shoe, among others.

All evening long the Town Council gave away gifts in the form of raffles and prizes which were donated to the San Pedro Town Council by the many businesses and individuals of the island, including dinners at top restaurants, gift certificates from gift shops, cash prizes, waffle makers, wines, among others.

The Pierre David Show had the lovely mothers singing along to romantic songs of various Latin artists that Pierre impersonated, such as Juan Gabriel, Vicente Fernandez, Luis Miguel and Kalimba. But the all time favorite was Paquita la del Barrio, who not only had the mothers singing but laughing as well. Mayor Daniel Guerrero was quite a sport as he was a target of the famous Paquita who had everyone laughing.

It was indeed a great night as hundreds of mothers who attended the evening’s gala enjoyed good camaraderie and had a splendid time.  Ambergris Today takes this opportunity to thank all our beloved and dear Mothers for all the love they give us. Bless you all. Congratulations to Mrs. Ana Medrano, Mother of the Year 2012.

A poem for all Mothers: Titled “Por Ti” by Mrs. Mila Phillips:
