Students of San Pedro Town were asked to put on their thinking caps and enter the essay and poster competition which was launched by the San Pedro Transport Department. Councilor Kenrick Brackett whose portfolio includes transport, teamed up with Ambergris Today, The Reef Radio and the San Pedro Sun to launch the contest titled, “The Importance of Traffic Safety.”
On Sunday, June 10, 2012, a short program was held at the San Pedro Lions Den in honor of all those who participated in the competitions, especially to honor those who won. The poster competition was specifically for primary school students and it was divided in three groups Group A – consists of Infant I and II, Group B – Standards I, II and III and Group C – Standards IV, V and VI. Students were asked to design posters including various traffic signs. Winners of the poster competition are as follows:
Group A – Infant I & II:
1st Place – Javier Gongora – SPRCS Infant II
2nd Place – Alisha Lima – SPRCS Infant II
3rd Place – Luis Muñoz – SPRCS Infant II
Group B – Standard I, II & III:
1st Place – Gaven Zapata – IBES Standard III
2nd Place – Urielly Soto – SPRCS Standard I
3rd Place – William Gonzalez – SPRCS Standard III
Group C – Standard IV, V, VI:
1st Place – Erwin Caliz – SPRCS Standard VI
2nd Place – Yosselin Lara – Holy Cross Standard V
3rd Place – Laisha Gamez – Holy Cross Standard V
The essay competition was specifically for high school students and was divided into two different groups, Group A – 1st and 2nd Form and Group B – 3rd and 4th Form. Students were also asked to talk about the importance of traffic safety and the different traffic signs. With only a few essay competitions entered from 1st and 2nd Form students there were two winners from 2nd form and one from 1st form, the winners are as follows:
1st Form – 1st Place – Chelsea Muñoz – SPHS
2nd Form – 1st Place – Brian Schwiegler and Geovanna Carillo – SPHS
Mayor Daniel Guerrero gave the opening remarks for the ceremony and handed out the prizes to all winners. Key note speaker for the evening was Mr. Chrispin Jefferies and councilor Kenrick Brackett gave the closing remarks. Congratulations to all winners!
