The Marco Gonzalez Archaeological Reserve is hosting a free archaeology exhibition at Fido’s upstairs lounge and to open the exhibit a social was held on June 21, 2012. On hand was Jan Brown, chairlady of the Marco Gonazlez Maya Site, and Dr. Scott Simmons along with students from the USA and England.
The exhibit contained information about the ancient Maya site that is located at the southernmost part of Ambergris Caye, gave the opportunity for guests to handle rare artifacts and included activities to learn more about archaeology.
Prior to the exhibit Galen University and a University of North Caroline Wilmington (UNCW) teamed up for public archaeology education program here on the island and students from various schools were visited as part of an educational program. The team centered towards introducing young minds to the field of archaeology and anthropology, enticing interest into the field of studies as well as educating them about the importance of preserving archaeological sites and history. Making visits to the schools were Dr. Scott Simmons of UNCW along with archaeology students Victor Cucul and Ismael Teul of Galen University
The archaeological exhibit of the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site is free of cost and runs until tomorrow, Saturday, June 23, upstairs of Fido’s Courtyard from 10a.m. to 6p.m. Everyone is welcome.
