Town Council Kicks off Soccer Summer Camp

It’s summer time and the children of San Pedro are enjoying fun in the sun. We are blessed to have the beautiful Caribbean Sea and children can enjoy it to the max. There are several organizations or groups that come together yearly to entertain children during summer like the Coral Reef Edventures and just recently the Swim Summer Camp.

But most, if not all, of the children in San Pedro are sports enthusiasts and have lots and lots of sportsmanship. Councilor Gaby Nuñez, being a sports fanatic and player himself and a father of three active boys, always has the children of San Pedro at heart. With this in mind he organized a soccer summer camp which kicked off this Saturday, July 7, 2012.

Heading the camp are two soccer professionals, Palmiro Salas and Guillermo “Pando” Ramirez. Ramirez is a professional soccer player and is currently the Captain of the Guatemalan football team. He, along with coach Salas, will be hosting the camp for children between the ages of 6 and 14. The camp will run for a month and games will mostly be played during the weekends.

“Not only will the children be playing soccer just for the fun of it,” stated Salas, “They will also be getting educational and motivational talks. We are very happy to be able to assist the Town Council in this event and we are very much glad to help the children of San Pedro.”

“Getting the children of the island involved in healthy, educational programs is one of the main purpose of holding this summer camp,” stated Councilor Gaby Nuñez to Ambergris Today. At the end of the summer camp the children will travel to Belize City to play friendly matches with other schools. For more information on the camp call Councilor Gaby Nuñez at 605-0976.
