Taiwan Donates Two Garbage Compactors to San Pedro

From the moment Mayor Daniel Guerrero and his councilors took office they have been arduously working in keeping our Isla Bonita clean and beautiful. Cleanup campaigns are constantly being held and the town has received donations of trucks which have been used as dump trucks. On Friday, March 15, 2013, the Government of Taiwan officially handed over two large garbage compactors to the town of San Pedro Town.

Master of Ceremony, Mr. Angel Nuñez, welcomed all in attendance to the ceremony and after the National Anthem of both Taiwan and Belize were played, Councilor Kenrick Brackett shared the invocation prayer followed by the welcome address by Mayor Daniel Guerrero.

“This is truly a historic event,” stated Mayor Daniel Guerrero. “We are truly grateful for the generosity of this benevolent country which has now been extended to La Isla Bonita. These two garbage compactors will enhance and improve garbage collection and the overall sanitation and cleanliness of the island. I pledge to put the trucks to good use. I am asking the residents of our Isla Bonita to work together for a cleaner, healthier and safer island.”

Also addressing the audience was Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Culture, who in a short, yet meaningful, speech whole-heartedly thanked the Ambassador of The Republic of China (Taiwan) Mr. David Wu for his great contributions, not only to San Pedro but to the entire country of Belize.

Guest speaker for the ceremony was Ambassador David Wu who stated that he was more than grateful to assist in the sanitation of the island. “We are grateful for the support that Belize has shown to our country (Taiwan) and when the Town Council approached us for assistance with a garbage compactor we were more than happy to provide them with double of what was asked for,” stated Ambassador Wu.
