– Press Release – Parents are always looking for options for their children and we have a new educational opportunity for the 2013-2014 school year. Multiple parents have been requesting a program that will allow their child to have an education comprable to the United States. Cheryl Bowen, Tina Hayden and Tammy Peterson took on the challenge of finding such a program. As a result, a satelite classroom of TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL (TTUHS) will be opening for student attendance in San Pedro on August 23, 2013.
Texas Tech University High School (TTUHS) is NOT a Belizean school. It is a non-profit satellite school for the Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD) in Lubbock, Texas, USA. All of the course requirements, books and materials are established by the TTUISD. When a child enrolls, he/she is enrolling in an accredited US high school. He/she is attending a school in the United States, located in the Texas Tech University Independent School District without ever leaving Belize. THAT is the advantage of long distance learning! Students can access an education in the United States ONLINE instead of leaving Belize and traveling to live in the US.
Students will have online access to the entire curriculum and will be assigned online teachers in the United States that grade ALL assignments. The teachers are also available through the “course portal” to assist students with any questions related to the coursework. In addition, there will be a full-time administrator in the classroom everyday to assist students and keep communication open with parents. Students will take all classes required to earn a US high school diploma. The rigorous curriculum includes four years of English Language Arts, Mathematics, including Algebra and Geometry, Science, including Biology, Chemistry and Physics and Social Studies, including Geography, World History, Government and Economics. In addition TTUHS students complete one year of Physical Education, one course in Speech and a total of eleven (11) elective classes. With the rigor of the curriculum, we have volunteers that will be available to assist students, especially those finding the any of the course work too challenging.
The Board of Directors and the staff of Texas Tech University High School Satellite campus are dedicated to the individualized education of each student. We believe in the partnership between student, parent and staff to help our students achieve the highest level of success. Students attending TTUHS will be held to the highest standard of academic performance and good citizenship. Our goal is to help each child reach his/her fullest potential and graduate with all the requirements necessary for acceptance to a US College or University.
If you would like additional information regarding this new and innovative educational opportunity, or if you’d like to serve as a volunteer, please email Cheryl Bowen, Tina Hayden and/or Tammy Peterson at ttuhs@hotmail.com.
