Repairs Commence on Sir Barry Bowen Bridge, San Pedro

The east pedestrian walk way of the Sir Barry Bowen Bridge had been closed for over a year now and after inspection of the bridge that took place in April of 2012, work has finally commenced today Tuesday, May 21, 2013, on the much needed repairs.

Upon inspection of the bridge a year ago, it was deemed that the entire support structure is in good condition and not in the brink of collapsing. Immediate repairs are needed on the pedestrian walkways and main vehicle lanes which have corroded due to the climate conditions on the island.

Contractor and engineer of Medina’s Construction stated that simple and routine maintenance is key in extending the life span of the bridge.

The bridge was closed to traffic this past Sunday, May 19, and is open to pedestrians only, during the entire period of renovations.  San Pedro Mayor Daniel Guerrero estimates a time frame of two weeks for the complete overhaul and asks the public for patience and cooperation.
