Team Happy Cow Takes 1st Place at Lagoon Reef Eco Challenge

It was an impressive start of the Lagoon Reef Eco Challenge 2013 as 20 teams entered this year’s race, now in its ninth year. The kick off was a little after 7a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013, and the final leg of the race ended at Central Park the next day Sunday, July 7, 2013. It was a senior, junior and female race this year and taking the top prize was Team Happy Cow for the senior division.

A large crowd gathered at Central Park to cheer for all the paddlers who took part in the grueling two-day challenge of kayaking around the northern part of the island and back to town the following day. All teams started at a very fast pace and showed much strength and endurance.

After camping at the first pit stop overnight and rejuvenating their energies the paddlers were off the next day and about midday hundreds of island residents were at the Central Park waiting for them to come in and cheer them on. Great music was provided by DJ Habo and there were lots to eat and drink.

Team Happy Cow and Team Sparta Boys were head to head throughout the competition but in the end of the gruesome race it was Team Happy Cow that took 1st place. With much exhaustion all the teams made it to the finish line; but there were some drop outs. Congratulations to all teams who participated.
